AF around the world
Foreign students have attended Alliances Françaises around the world for more than a century.
Founded in 1883 on the initiative of Paul Cambon and Pierre Foncin, the international network now comprises 968 Alliances Françaises teaching in 136 countries .
It is the largest network disseminating the French language and French-speaking cultures worldwide today.
Alliances Françaises are associations governed by local law and administered by a board of trustees made up of French-speakers or Francophiles in their own countries. When a centre is set up, the articles of association must be approved by the Alliance Française Foundation which awards the Alliance Française label and ensures its legitimacy.
In France there are 27 Alliances including 13 teaching centres : Bordeaux, Dijon, Grasse, Grenoble, Lyon, Marseille , Montpellier, Nice, Paris, Rouen, Strasbourg, Toulouse and Vendôme.
